Behind The Camera

People have been asking me for a look into what happens behind the scenes. What is it really like to film a 95 day relay run around the world. It all sounds glamorous I know, but the reality was I worked harder than I ever had in my entire life put together. In alot of ways it was one of the hardest jobs I have ever had and also the most rewarding. I still have dreams about it. In one dream we got all the way around the world and back to New York and got told we had to back track around the way we came! Another reoccuring dream I have is that I am on that job and my camera gets stolen. It's been over a year since we finished and amazing how it is still with me, and makes everything else I do seem so easy. We worked 100 days strait and slept an average of 4 hours a day. I tapped into resources I never knew I had and have more stamina than I realized. I also learned it is possible to function on copious amounts of Redbull and coffee over an extended period of time, and is what kept me going. I do love my job, however, which is also what kept me going. video

Polly, Your work on the BPR was amazing! I also remember how everyone involved pulled together to make that project work, the extremely long nights on night pilot, the people we met and touched along the way. Especially the friends that we all made.

Regards, Kevin K, Night pilot medic, Moscow to Tokyo.

Kiaora Polly,

This is Jo from the Arts Biz course! (Todd's partner) I love your work! I am heading over to New York in 5 weeks time - a cousin of mine who used to work with MTV wants to make a doco and I am going to help her do the camera work. I was wondering if we could get together for an hour (if you have time!) where I can pick your brains about how to make a beautiful doco on a tight budget and if you can advise on gear, editing etc. Is it possible to meet sometime soon? Here is my email tetekura@xtra.co.nz to get in touch with me and I'll send you through my ph number when you email or you may have one of our cards already? Thanks Polly, your films are awesome and I know that you will have lots of awesome info on how to do an amazing doco for this project! I'll talk more to you about the project in the email! thanks again! Jo :)
